Android has become one of the most popular smartphone operating systems in the world and while out of all the smartphone users worldwide, 88 per cent are using Android OS, Google’s operating system has just turned 10. In this decade-long journey, Google’s Android has come a long way from being on the verge of shutting down to becoming one of Google’s biggest projects.
For the unknown, Google didn’t develop Android as it was a dying startup looking for some investments. In the year 2005, Google bought Android, which was making operating systems for phones as well as digital cameras. Even Samsung once has the opportunity to buy Android but the company thought that Android didn’t have much potential.
The first Android version was launched with the T-Mobile G1 aka HTC Dream which ran Android 1.0 out of the box and went against Apple’s iPhone OS 2. Now, the world is soon to get the Android 9.0 Pie update on their Android smartphones and here we take a look at the all the Android versions and their names and how Google has named all the versions of its Android versions.
Before dwelling into the details, it should be noted that Google names every Android version in alphabetical order which means that after Google 9.0 Pie, the next Android name with start from the alphabet Q. On the other hand, Apart from Android 1.0 and 1.1, every other Android version has been named after either sweet treats or desserts.
